Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born on October 20, 1964, she is the 49th Vice-President of the United States. She is the first woman to hold the vice-president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S history. Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally, she served as the United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. After starting her career as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was hired to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco's district attorney. She was elected Attorney general of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she won re-election. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the 2nd African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and cannabis legalization which could lead to the citizenship for undocumented immigrants and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. In the news, attention was paid to her sharp examination of Trump administration officials during Senate sessions. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual abuse.
